NBA free agents who deserve a place on one of the 22 remaining teams

J.R. Smith

It’s a long time since J.R. Smith played an NBA game. Many of the concerns with Crawford’s absence are replicated with Smith. Smith is much younger, but his last NBA game came on 19th November 2018. He has notably declined in his last couple of active seasons.

The upside franchises might see in Smith is obvious, however. He can get hot from the perimeter, turning a game or two in his team’s favour. He’s shot 37% from deep in the playoffs for his career, including 50% in the 2016/17 postseason and 43% the year before as the Cleveland Cavaliers won the title.

Any team could take a chance on Smith. Three-point shooting is always desirable, though it’s the Los Angeles Lakers who have been linked most frequently.
