Five free agents the Miami Dolphins should target in 2022 offseason

Given all that cap space, the Dolphins free agent targets 2022 list can finally include some of the best players in the league. They have a young, up-and-coming squad that has shown signs of promise, a new head coach, and plenty of cash to spare.

The Dolphins’ offseason plans have changed drastically over the past couple of months. They reportedly fired HC Brian Flores to pursue Sean Payton and were also looking to sign Tom Brady. As you may know by now, both of them announced their retirement.

But according to most NFL offseason predictions, that doesn’t mean that the Dolphins will just go through the motions in the next couple of weeks. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the five players they should look to sign in the offseason.

5. Cordarrelle Patterson

Cordarrelle Patterson had flown under the radar for most of his NFL career. He finally broke out last season with the Atlanta Falcons and proved to be one of the most versatile weapons in the league. Now, he’s looking at the biggest payday of his career.

The Dolphins need help at both the wide receiver and running back spots, and they could also use a guy to build their special teams unit around. Patterson checks all those boxes and could be one of the biggest bargains of the offseason.

4. DJ Chark

DJ Chark hasn’t had a solid quarterback throwing his way since entering the league, yet he’s cracked the 1,000-yard mark in a season already. He’s explosive, fast, and a solid route-runner who may not get the attention he’s proven to be worthy of.

The Dolphins could look to bring him in on a ‘prove-it’ kind of deal while also bringing a top-notch wideout to solve their passing game woes. Also, his free-agency pretensions took a big hit with his season-ending injury, although he’s expected to be ready for the start of the season.

3. Chris Godwin

Chris Godwin has been one of the best and most consistent receivers in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. But just like Chark, his market value plummeted drastically after suffering a season-ending injury towards the end of the past campaign.

The Dolphins would be wise to make the most of this situation and lure him, even if that means slightly overpaying for him. He’s a huge red zone threat and a physical mismatch more often than not. Also, he’s still just 26 years old so it’s not like he’ll come back washed.

2. Ryan Jensen

The Miami Dolphins desperately need to revamp their offensive line. And there would be no better way to star that than by signing one of the best big men in the league. Ryan Jensen would be a massive upgrade at the center of their offensive line, for sure.

Tua Tagovailoa has been far from impressive but to be fair, it’s not like his OL did a lot to protect him and give him time. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t have a lot of cap space and may need to let Jensen go if they intend to pursue a big-name QB.

1. Davante Adams

If the Miami Dolphins want to make a big splash, then they need to do whatever it takes to sign Davante Adams. He’s the best wideout in this class and perhaps the best route runner in the league. His sole presence could turn around an entire offense.

The biggest issue in signing Adams is his contract situation with the Green Bay Packers. They could still use the franchise tag on him or try to sign him to an extension and then trade him. Whatever’s the case, the Dolphins need to be on his phone 24/7.
