However, they have worked hard to rebuild their roster this offseason, signing pitcher Jameson Taillon, shortstop Dansby Swanson, and former MVP Cody Bellinger. Those changes should make the Cubs a bonafide contender in the NL Central, giving a lot of importance to these head-to-head games with the Cardinals.
When is the MLB London Series?
The Cubs and Cardinals will play two games in London this summer.
The first game is on Saturday, June, 24, and will start at 6:10 p.m. local time in the U.K. The second game will be the following day, Sunday, June 25, and will start at 3:10 p.m. local time.
Where is the MLB London Series Played?
Just like in 2019, the two games of the MLB London Series will be played at London Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. As the name implies, the stadium was built in anticipation of London hosting the 2012 Olympics and is now used as the full-time home of Premier League club West Ham United.
However, Olympic Stadium is still used for a variety of purposes, including hosting games in the MLB London series.
Is the stadium built for Baseball?
Needless to say, Olympic Stadium wasn’t specifically designed for baseball. However, the stadium is large enough to fit a baseball stadium and still has a capacity of roughly 66,000 fans.
Equally important, the dimensions of the MLB London Series stadium are 330 feet from home plate to each foul pole and 385 feet to straight away center field. As mentioned, during the 2019 MLB London Series, those dimensions turned out to be quite favorable to hitters, as the Yankees and Red Sox combined for 50 runs in just two games.
