Franchise Sports Talk Baseball: American League West division preview

Home » Podcasts » Franchise Sports Talk Baseball: American League West division preview

Joe and Sam preview the American League West. The Astros are expected to reign supreme again, though the Angels and Athletics will be hoping to topple the 2017 World Series winners.

Houston lost Dallas Keuchel and Charlie Morton to free agency as well as Lance McCullers Jr. to injury. Only two-fifths of the formidable rotation remains, but they have the depth, and new signing Wade Miley, to fill in behind Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander.

The Athletics won 97 games last season and will be hopeful of landing a wildcard spot again this season. Their young duo of Matt Chapman and Matt Olson should be even better in 2019, but there are concerns about their starting pitching.

The Angels have Mike Trout, but like the Athletics, their starting pitching is a concern with Shohei Ohtani not able to take the mound in 2019. Seattle are beginning a rebuild, while the Rangers are going to struggle again.
