Joe and Sam discuss the latest from Major League Baseball. The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves contest atop the National League East leads off the podcast before discussion about Max Scherzer, Anthony Rendon and the latest All-Star voting.

Having lost Andrew McCutchen to a long injury, the Phillies have dropped off the pace, falling several games behind the surging Braves. Led by Freddie Freeman, young pitching and superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., the Braves are in a strong position ahead of the trade deadline, giving them plenty of options.

Scherzer’s contract still has two years to run after this, but there is a chance that the Nationals opt to trade him before he acquires 10 and 5 rights at the end of this season. Rendon, a free agent to be, is also a trade candidate for Washington, who have fallen out of the race.

Fan voting for the 2019 MLB All-Star game has left some strange outliers. Sam and Joe bemoan the rules that require each team to have at least one All-Star.
