In an overdue podcast, Joe and Sam reflect on the Major League Baseball Regular Season and look ahead to the two wildcard games.

The Tampa Bay Rays face the Oakland Athletics in the American League wildcard, in what is expected to be an analytically-driven bullpen affair. In the National League, Max Scherzer and the impressive Washington Nationals host the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers, who put together a brilliant run into the postseason despite a season-ending injury to reigning MVP Christian Yelich.

Yelich is a frontrunner for MVP once again, but may well miss out to Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger. Scherzer could be set to win yet another Cy Young, but he faces stiff competition from Jacob deGrom and Jack Flaherty. Switching to the American League, Mike Trout is the MVP favourite after another monster year, while Alex Bregman could’ve earned some late votes with a brilliant September.

Pete Alonso and Yordan Alvarez look to have a firm grip on the respective Rookie of the Year awards. Teammates Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole will be the top two for the AL Cy Young.
