Franchise Sports Talk Baseball: National League East division preview

Home » Podcasts » Franchise Sports Talk Baseball: National League East division preview

Joe and Sam preview the National League East after a very busy offseason. The Braves won the division in 2018 and will hope to repeat in 2019, but they face tough competition from the Mets, Phillies and Nationals.

Atlanta made an under the radar move, adding Josh Donaldson to an already talented core. Nick Markakis was re-signed, though they were the least active of the four contending teams in the National League East this winter.

The Mets landed Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz in a trade with Seattle as well as signing Jed Lowrie, Jeurys Familia and Wilson Ramos on free agent deals. Jacob deGrom’s extension just before the season starts was a significant boost.

Philadelphia overhauled their line-up, adding J.T. Realmuto, Andrew McCutchen, Jean Segura and, most significantly, Bryce Harper. The Nationals are still a strong outfit even without Harper, and they made the biggest pitching addition of the offseason, landing Patrick Corbin on a big contract.

The Marlins remain deep in a rebuild, looking for breakouts from Jorge Alfaro and Lewis Brinson and will be sellers in July.
