Recently, MLB conducted a survey among 85 players on their favorite uniforms in which they have to select other teams and not their own.
Here are the results of the unscientific study:
Team | Votes |
Yankees | 10 |
Dodgers | 10 |
Braves | 9 |
Mariners | 6 |
Cardinals | 5 |
Along with jerseys, here’s a look at cool logos of these teams and its history.
Yankees
According to the franchise, the design was inspired by a medal of honor created by Louis Tiffany of Tiffany & Co. in 1877 and presented to John McDowell, a New York City police officer shot in the line of duty.
Dodgers
An interlocking “L” and “A” The blue cap with white lettering is a carry-over from their days as the Brooklyn Dodgers where the team wore the exact same uniform only with a white “B” in place of the “LA” on the cap.The most recent tweak in 2012 saw the serif at end of the “L” shortened in size ever-so-slightly.
Braves
Since 1990, the Atlanta Braves logo has remained the same.
Its design references the team’s past but with the offensive imagery (Native American stereotypes) removed. Instead, they added a tomahawk (a Native American tool) which symbolizes throwing accuracy and force. This pays homage to the team’s skill and athleticism. Finally, to maintain some of its nostalgia, they kept the script font.
Mariners
The logo of the baseball team Seattle Mariners has almost always been based on the “sea” theme.
While in the earlier versions, it was represented by a trident, the current logo sports a compass.
Cardinals
The birds on a bat from the 2013 jerseys show a few small tweaks, a further evolution to the official team design. The stitching is more detailed and prominent, the bat has become multi-dimensional with a better sense of depth, and the birds have fully detailed eyes and feathers lushly embroidered.
