Congratulations to Jonny Gaudreaah who scored his 100th NHL goal to help the Calgary Flames beat the Boston bruins 5-2. Flames were also indebted to Michael Frolik who picked up a brace to help the Flames to their fourth win of the season.

Earlier this week man of the moment Auston Matthews extended his multi point streak to seven, to help the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the LA Kings 4-1 at Scotiabank Arena on Monday, extending their opening start to the season to five wins in a row (6-1-0). Matthews, has now joined the legend that is Mario Lemieux alongside Kevin Stevens of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Mike Bossy of the New York Islanders and one of the all time greatest hockey players ever Wayne Gretzky, to start a season with seven consecutive multipoint games. Matthews currently leads the NHL scoring charts with 16 points.

Montreal Canadiens Tomas Tatar grabbed a goal and an assist – against his old club – in the Canadiens 7-3 victory against the Detroit Red Wings. It’s certainly been a poor start to the season from the Wings, who have now lost their first six games of the season for the first time in their long history.

Tyler Johnson was the player of the night on Tuesday after completing a hat-trick for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 4-2 win, and in so doing prevented the Carolina Hurricanes from matching their best start ever to a season.

Nathan Mackinnon scored in his sixth straight game but was on the losing side as the Colorado Avalanche lost to the New York Rangers 3-2 in a shootout. Mackinnon netted with just 13 seconds left to tie the game, and pass Mats Sundin’s franchise record of scoring in five straight games.

It was a very warm welcome back to Chicago Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford on Thursday evening when the 33-year-old was back in the cage for the game against the Arizona Coyotes. Crawford was playing his first game since Dec 23rd 2017, due to concussion. Crawford, made 27 saves for the Blackhawks in a 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes.

Matt Murray pulled out 38 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 3-0 win against the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday. Murray, was playing for the first time for 10 days after sustaining a concussion in practice.

It was a special night on Thursday for Colorado Avalanche’s Gabriel Landeskog who completed his third NHL hat-trick in a 5-3 win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Centre.

Hat tricks were a common sight in the NHL on Thursday after Logan Couture of the Sharks picked up his third NHL hat-trick in a 5-1 victory against the Buffalo Sabres. San Jose’s Evander Kane managed a two-point haul on the night to help the Sharks to their third victory of the new season.

The Ottawa Senators suffered a blow this week with news that Brady Tkachuk will be out for a month with a torn ligament in his leg. The 19-year-old forward has had a solid start to the season with six points in four games for the Number 4 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Los Angeles Kings netminder Jonathan Quick could well be back in action as early as the weekend, after returning from a lower body injury. Quick, has not played since the season’s opener on October 5th, when he allowed three goals on 33 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks. Quick, made his first NHL start for almost 10 months after suffering concussion in the 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils in late December 2017.

In the Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division the Carolina Hurricanes top the table with nine points, one ahead the Devils and the Blue Jackets.

The early pacesetters in the Atlantic Division are the Maple Leafs with twelve points from eight games played.

In the Western Conference an extremely tight Central Division sees just two points separating four teams, with Nashville Predators and Colorado joint top of the pile.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks have opened a gap of three points ahead of the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Cannucks in the Pacific Division. The Ducks have suffered just one loss in regulation time this season so far, and already look a force to be reckoned with once again this season.
