Pittsburgh Penguins traded forward Carl Hagelin on Wednesday, with the strong possibility of more to come. The trade came a day after Penguins lost 4-2 at the New Jersey Devils, making it five losses out of their last seven games. Taylor Hall picked up two goals and two assists to help the New Jersey Devils end a three game losing streak in the 4-2 win for the Devils.

This week also saw a landmark occasion for Joe Thornton. The San Jose Sharks forward scored his 400th NHL goal in the Sharks 5-4 win against Nashville Predators on Tuesday. 400 was also a popular number for Erik Karlsson, who registered his 400th NHL assist in the same game.

Earlier this week Mark Scheifele picked up three points to help the Winnipeg Jets secure a 5-2 win over the Devils. Scheifele, is on a rich vein of form now with 15 points from nine games.

Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist to take over the NHL scoring lead as Colorado Avalanche ended a five game losing streak with a 4-1 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Sunday.

On the injury front, Pavel Buchnevich of the New York Rangers is expected to be out for between 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb. The injury occurred in the shoot out win at the Columbus Blue Jackets at the weekend.

Another player who will be on the sidelines for a short while is Jack Campbell who will be out of action for around 4-6 weeks due to a meniscus tear in the knee, which will require surgery. Campbell, became a starter for the LA Kings when Jonathan Quick sustained a knee injury last month.

In the Eastern Division Metropolitan Division the Blue Jackets are still top of the pile with a two point lead from the New York Islanders and the Rangers. Tampa Bay have the honours at the top of the Atlantic Division with a narrow one point advantage from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the Western Division Central Division, Nashville Predators have a three point advantage from Minnesota and the ever improving Jets, who are currently on a three game winning streak. In the Pacific, The Sharks hold a slim one point lead over the Cannucks with the Flames just a point behind.

Two teams currently who are on a hot streak are the Panthers who have won five straight games and the Detroit Red Wings who have won four in a row.
