In the eyes of many MLB fans, and even experts, this year’s World Series winner will not be the undisputed champion that it usually is. The shortened 2020 campaign – starting on July 23rd – will feature just 60 games per team, which is nearly a third of the normal 162 games. There’s always been a reason why baseball teams play such an unprecedented number of games. A smaller number of games would resemble an outcome too situational to determine a rightful champion.
On the other hand, it would provide surprises. Many, many surprises. The number of games is unfair to the best teams in the league and those spending resources on efficient assets. This could prove to be just another piece of evidence why viewers should prepare for an absolute madness and overhaul in 2020.
