Some amazing news to come out of America this week, is that a Seattle expansion team will play in the NHL starting in 2021/22. The NHL Board of Governors gave final approval to Seattle’s bid to become the leagues 32nd team, with Seattle expected to make their debut in 2021.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 48 saves in his return from injury to help the Tampa Bay Lightning record their eighth straight victory in a 4-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. Vasilevskiy was returning back to the ice after missing 14 games after fracturing his left foot at practice on November 14th.

The Chicago Blackhawks ended an eight game losing streak with a 6-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at United Centre on Wednesday.

Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists to surpass 700 NHL points as the Blackhawks completed their first victory since November 24th.

Ondrej Kase scored his first NHL hat trick for the Anaheim Ducks in their 6-3 win against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday. Brandon Montour picked up four points on the night and Jakob Silfverberg continued his hot streak by scoring for the fourth straight game. Ryan Getzlaf had two assists as he surpassed 900 NHL points for the Ducks, who have now won seven out of the last eight games.

       

On Monday evening Steven Stamkos reached a milestone in his career after passing 700 NHL points in Tampa Bay Lightning’s 6-3 win over the New York Rangers at Amalie Arena on Monday. Stamkos also completed a hat-trick on the night and with two goals from Anthony Cirelli ensured Lightning won their season high seventh straight game, the longest streak in the NHL.

The Edmonton Oilers, under new coach Ken Hitchcock are a rapidly improving team who have now won three straight games after a 1-0 victory against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Place on Sunday. The Oilers can also boast a record of five straight wins at home and six victories in their last seven games since Hitchcock was put in charge.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Zach Hyman has been suspended for two games without pay for interference against Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy during their encounter on December 8th.

The Arizona Coyotes were hit with the sorry news on Sunday that netminder Antti Raanta is likely to miss the rest of the season. Raanta has already missed the past five games due to a lower body injury, but now after more tests it has been revealed that there is more extensive damage than was originally anticipated.

Torey King scored his first goal of the season and also had two assists with the Boston Bruins ending a three game losing streak with a 6-3 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden on Saturday. Brad Marchand had three assists and Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves for the Bruins who currently have a 15-10-4 record.

       

Steven Stamos hit two goals and two assists for the Tampa Bay Lightning in their 7-1 thrashing of the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. Ondrej Palat was also amongst the goals with a brace along with Tyler Johnson as the Lightning continued their impressive streak of winning six straight and nine of its past ten games.

Alex Ovechkin continued his hot streak with a goal and an assist to extend his streak to 11 games in the Washington Capitals 4-0 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Saturday. Braden Holtby completed his second shutout this season and 34 in nine seasons for the Capitals who are 9-2-0 in the past 11 games.

Oliver Kylington picked up his first NHL points with a goal and an assist to help the Calgary Flames complete a fifth straight win in their 5-2 victory against the Nashville Predators on Saturday. The win lifts the Flames to a 19-9-2 record, including nine wins in their last 11 games.

The New York Rangers ended a three game losing streak with a 5-4 shootout win against the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Fredrik Claesson had a goal and an assist with Kevin Hales picking up two assists for the Rangers who lead 2-0 after the opening period.
