Three buyout targets the Clippers should consider

Just like their rival Lakers, there are plenty of Clippers buyout targets…

The Los Angeles Clippers are without a doubt one of the top teams in the NBA right now and are within a chance of taking home taking home that championship in July.

However, so are many other teams, the trade deadline has now passed but there are still a handful of buyouts left to be picked up which where they end up going could be the difference in winning the championship or falling just short.

Clippers buyout targets

The Clippers did make a trade just before the deadline adding veteran Rajon Rondo to their roster which sent Lou Williams and two second round picks to Atlanta. Rondo has had a rather disappointing season in Atlanta, but the Clippers will be hoping come playoff time Rondo will be a key player for them like he was in the Lakers championship run last season.

If the Clippers really want to separate themselves from the rest of the pack here are three buyout players they could target.

Andre Drummond

It’s been over a month since the Cleveland Cavaliers told Andre Drummond that he would not be playing until they could work out a move for him, and with the trade deadline passed the only way he can move now is if he is bought out.

Drummond is a rebounding monster and on the season is averaging 13.4 rebounds as well as 17.5 points in 25 games.

When in a very talented Western Conference if the Clippers are to progress to the NBA finals they could very well have to face big centres such as Rudy Gobert and Nikola Jokic, and even though Drummond isn’t known for his defence just his size and presence would help against stars like those.

LaMarcus Aldridge

LaMarcus Aldridge is an extremely useful player still at the age of 35 the veteran has been bought out by the Spurs as they mutually agreed to part ways earlier in March.

This season, Aldridge averaging 13.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 25 minutes of action.

The seven-time All-Star is said to be in talks with several teams and he would be a massive coup for the Clippers as they try to win the NBA championship. A starting five of Patrick Beverley, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Serge Ibaka would be hard to look past.

Otto Porter

Now there are several players the Clippers could target for more three-point shooting such as Wayne Ellington and Austin Rivers but I believe the best option out there is Otto Porter.

Since being traded to Chicago, Porter has had a rather injury hit few years and he has never been able to rekindle his form from the 2016-17 season with the Wizards when he was the third best 3pt shooter in the league.

However, Porter is currently averaging 40% from three this season and can offer help on the defensive end. Porter was traded to the Magic who have entered a rebuilding phase and would make sense for them to buy him out of his contract and would be a great asset for the Clippers or any championship contending team.
