DAZN attracts Entain CEO Segev to make business a success

The way sports are broadcast worldwide is changing. The days of brands such as Sky Sports being market leaders could well be coming to an end as streaming starts to take hold of the popularity stakes. One company leading the way where the new age of sports broadcasting is concerned is Dazn. And they’re making critical appointments as they plot their route to the top.

Dazn, pronounced Da Zone, for anyone wondering, has quickly assembled a team of experts across the organisation as they leave no stone unturned in their quest to be the best. And, one of their most recent hires is Shay Segev. Segev, who comes from Entain, formerly known as GVC Holdings, had only been with the company a mere six months before making the switch.

It must be said that Segev was working quite closely with some of Entain’s leading online casino brands. So news of the move came as a shock to many, especially when realising that Dazn as an entity was still establishing themselves in the sector. However, some industry experts suggest they are still recognisable, in their own right, as a tech startup rather than an established brand.

Segev, who joins the business as co-chief executive alongside James Rushton, was headhunted by the streaming brand because of his background in digital transformation and tech. Still, his experience working at Entain, Playtech and Videobet will undoubtedly have also come into their thinking when cherry-picking him for one of the top jobs.

Speaking about Segev’s appointment, John Skipper, Dazn Group executive chairman, said, “In Shay, we’re adding depth and fresh expertise to the team. He is recognised as one of the leading figures in online gaming. The gentleman brings vast technology and operations experience to the role, as well as an impressive track record in digital transformation.”

Segev was thrilled with the move to Dazn and added, “It is incredible to be given an opportunity to lead a business with global reach and ambition as well as the technology and resources to deliver sports to the world.”

Dazn, as a company, is moving quickly to establish itself as a global brand. The platform is already available in 200 territories worldwide, and they plan to continue their push for dominance across multiple sporting markets. Additionally, by offering sport streaming live at an affordable price, millions have been quick to get involved, which has driven growth at breakneck speed.

Another major signing has been the deal the company has struck with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn. Dazn is already renowned for its boxing shows that broadcast from all around the world, and with Hearn and Matchroom working exclusively with them, the planet’s top boxing talent will be available to watch week in, week out. And, this will likely include stars such as Canelo, Anthony Joshua, Katie Taylor and Dillian Whyte. So, the future is bright for Dazn, and they remain on course for success.
