Taking a look at De’Aaron Fox stats 2021, you can’t blame him for the Sacramento Kings’ poor performances.
Once again, he’s been one of the few bright spots on the team and some believe that he’s already outplayed that ever-struggling franchise.

Fox is one of the best young guards in the NBA. Sometimes, it feels like he doesn’t get the praise and recognition he deserves because of the small-market team he plays for. Sadly, that often prompts a players’ desire to leave his team.
Ever since being taken with the 5th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Fox has proved that he is special. He was already a marquee name in college basketball for constantly outplaying Lonzo Ball, and his journey in the NBA has been solid despite his team’s struggles.
But if you’re new to basketball and aren’t used to watching the Kings play (we wouldn’t judge you, though), chances are you don’t know just how good he is. That’s why today, we’re going to take an in-depth look at his stats and his game.
How Good Is De’Aaron Fox?
As we mentioned before, De’Aaron Fox sits near the top of the best young guards in the NBA. He’s one of the fastest players in the league, a pass-first kind of player, and a much-improved defender. He’s also made strides to improve his jump-shooting, perhaps the biggest flaw in his game.
Fox has embraced a leadership role with the Kings and was mature enough to deal with the fact that they took guards in back-to-back drafts. Instead of throwing tantrums or trying to force his way out of the team, he started balling and trying to make his teammates better.
This season, the Kentucky product is averaging 19.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game on 42% shooting. That’s a big dip from last year’s career-highs of 25.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.8 three-pointers per game on 47% from the floor.
De’Aaron Fox’s contract
Fox has only been in the league for a handful of years, which is why he’s “only” made $24,572,507 thus far. He earned $4,609,200 as a rookie and his salary went up every year to $5,470,920; $6,392,760; and $8,099,627 for the past season.
Fox recently signed a contract extension that will keep him tied to the Kings organization through the 2025-26 season. The deal will grant him $163,000,300 fully guaranteed with an average salary of $32,600,060.
He’s making $28,103,500 this season and that number will go up to $30,351,780 in 2023; $32,600,060 in 2024; $34,848,340 in 2025, and $37,096,620 before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Fox is only getting started
Even if De’Aaron Fox stats 2021 aren’t as impressive as they were last year, he’s only going to get better as the seasons go by. For starters, the Kings finally parted ways with Luke Walton, which was the biggest thing that was holding him and Tyrese Haliburton back.
With Walton out of the picture, Fox will finally keep developing and blossoming into one of the best young two-way players in the Association. The Kings’ three-headed monster in the backcourt of him, Haliburton, and Davion Mitchell can push up the pace every single night, and that only benefits his game.
Fox has yet to make his first All-Star appearance and that’s not likely to change unless the Kings somehow turn things around pretty quickly. But his name has been thrown around in multiple trade scenarios, including one for Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons.
Whether he leaves or not, it’s clear that the Kings weren’t making the most of Fox’s skillset during Walton’s tenure, which is why we fully expect him to turn the corner and continue his breakout under a more competent head coach.
