Five of the NFL’s biggest underdogs in 2020

It seems like the NFL is full of surprise teams that go from worst to first every season. This norm has spread across the seasons and it would be no surprise to see newcomers thrash title holders in fierce battles. While we’re not here to predict which team will win the NFL, we are here to examine some top sleepers that have made history in the past seasons and see if they have a chance in 2020 for folks to bet on at the top online casinos.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos have had very few chances to shine during the Peyton Manning reign as underdogs. Before that, the NFL team had a great run of matches in the NFL with the best overall winning percentage in NFL history playing as underdogs.

They have great players like Courtland Sutton, Noah Fant, and Jerry Jeudy. Bradley Chubb and Von Miller make a great combination, but we think Drew Lock is a little bit overhyped. Lock has great potential and while he steered a 4-1 finish in five starts, you wouldn’t watch him play without an utterance of criticism. Maybe if he tones down on his footwork a little bit, Broncos would see more impressive runs this season.

Speaking of defence, the Denver Broncos are incredible at keeping the gates locked. With the recent addition of running back Melvin Gordon and wide receivers like K.J. Hamler, the team might do well this season. Folks should consider placing a bet on the Broncos whenever they are up against a team with poor defence. You can do this at many of the top online casinos with sports books that have games for both UK and US players to bet on.

Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati is a professional NFL team based in Cincinnati, Ohio and a member of the American Football Conference North Division. Cincinnati has had a rough couple of seasons and until recently, the team was among the worst-performing teams in NFL history. But as things stand, they have impressive rosters which makes them a threat this season.

Last year was still bad and they fell 0-7 in one-score games in 2019. We think they deserved more if they didn’t have a round of injuries at key positions. They currently sit at the bottom of the AFC North after a 27-3 loss to Baltimore Ravens.

The team is expected to travel to the Lucas Oil Stadium as they face Indianapolis Colts on 25th October. The game isn’t as easy and the Colts have great running backs. It isn’t an easy bet, but you can fancy the Bengalis to surprise Colts at home.

New York Giants

The Giants have been on a season-long rebuilding of the team in a bid to get better and hopefully repeat their season win in the 2008 super bowl.

The new young’uns look impressive on paper but still need to show a lot on the ground. We are not sure if they will awe fans as much as they did in 2008, but we have a hunch they’ll still have something to boast about this season.

The Giants have since added a playmaking linebacker and as long as they keep their momentum they should be at the brim of causing havoc.

Their overall winning percentage as an underdog is over 40% and they are the only team to pull off one of the biggest upsets when they ruined New England Patriots perfect run to clinching the title. Their recent performance against the Cowboys was okay and while the Cowboys took the day winning 37-34, New York Giants seem to be really good offensively. Let’s hope as soon as next week, the Giants can end their five game winless run.

Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta is one of the most progressive underdog teams in the NFL. They started poorly at 1-7 but went on to a 6-2 finish last season. They are not as bad as they started, but are surely heading somewhere this season. With a mix of offensive players like Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, the team should be on the right track in the next fixtures.

Atlanta’s problem lies in defence. Matt Ryan isn’t in form and has cost the team a great number of runs in the past five matches. They won seven games last season and it shouldn’t be an issue getting to that figure if they clean house or at least better their defence.

This weekend they are up against the Houston Texans in a match that could see them clinch their first win since the start of this season. Recent reports show that Falcons has been working to clean house and it started after firing both general manager Thomas Dimitroff and Head coach Dan Quinn. Next week’s game looks like the perfect time for risk-taking punters to place their bets on the Atlanta Falcons.

Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions have been a sleeper’s choice in every podcast and in turn the team added about seven new defensive starters in the start of 2020 season. The team had more than 8 comebacks in 2016 and it is probably the greatest season for the Detroit Lions. We’re sure punters who backed the Lions in that season reaped great profits.

Apart from impressive comebacks, Detroit Lions seem to be a promising team this season and could probably stage a couple of upsets as well. The next test is against the Jaguars which have only bagged one win since the start of the season. With no pre-season matches, the Lions have had a rough start as the pandemic has affected some of the players. Allison, John Atkins, and Russel Bodine are all unsure selections this season. It’s still a tough bet for the next match and if the Detroit Lions don’t win, then they’ll lose by a small margin.
