Five potential Derrick Rose trade destinations

Home » NBA » Five potential Derrick Rose trade destinations

With the NBA trade deadline on February 6th there are a few rumours bouncing around the league. One of these rumours includes former league MVP and point guard for the Detroit Pistons Derrick Rose.

Rose is currently averaging 18.1 points on 49.6% shooting, 5.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds. Even though he isn’t the superstar he once was, Rose can still score and can still move the ball about. This makes him a very serviceable player for almost any team.

Here are five teams that could potentially trade for Derrick Rose…

Los Angeles Lakers

Yes, the Lakers have a 33-8 record (which is the second-best in the entire NBA.) However, they are currently relying heavily on LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

While it looks like this is working for them now it’s a whole different story when it comes to the playoffs.

By acquiring Derrick Rose the Lakers will add a much-needed playmaker in the backcourt. Currently none of the Lakers guards are averaging over 10 points per game or shooting near 50%.

Considering Rose’s playmaking ability and efficient scoring this would be a big upgrade and would take the pressure off both LeBron and Davis.

Chicago Bulls

Rose’s former team are sitting in the ninth seed just outside the playoff sports at a record of 15-27 in the Eastern Conference, four games behind the eighth seeded Brooklyn Nets.

Trading for Rose would probably be well received by the fans. But it would also give the team an upgrade at the guard position.

Even though a few Bulls guards are in double digit averages they aren’t in it convincingly, except for Zach LaVine who is averaging 24.6 points per game.

Adding Rose to this roster would give LaVine a consistent high percentage scorer alongside him which could help elevate Chicago to a potential push for a playoff spot.

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have been a surprise team for many this season, sitting in the 6th seed over in the Western Conference.

However, one of the Mavericks struggles this season has been their playmaking. Outside of Luka Doncic no one on the team has over 3.5 assists per game. Also, the players in 2nd and 3rd for assists on the team both only get between 15-17 minutes per game.

If the Mavericks added Rose, then they would be adding another good scoring guard, but they would also be adding another playmaker who could also start and average 25 minutes per game.

One of the biggest things Rose could bring to this team however is experience. With Doncic being 20 years old and Porzingis 24, Rose’s experience could be very valuable come playoff time.

This addition would give the Mavericks a big boost and could help push them in the playoffs.

Philadelphia 76ers

With the hype that the 76ers have got over the last couple of seasons, being 6th in the Eastern Conference is a disappointment.

One big thing holding the 76ers back is they don’t have a big-time guard who can create his own shot and play-make for others.

Cue Derrick Rose.

As I’ve said above: 18.1 points and 5.8 assists per game. All of this along with 49.6% shooting.

Adding Derrick Rose would give Philadelphia a lot more playmaking ability but would also give them a wider range of shooting along with that.

This would make the 76ers difficult to stop.

Brooklyn Nets

Okay so this might seem a bit outlandish, but considering the Nets are without Kevin Durant they could do with another scorer along with Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie.

The fact that the Nets are in the eight seed in the Eastern Conference adding another efficient scorer like Rose could help Kyrie take the Nets into a deep playoff run.

He would also be another playmaker so when Kyrie is off the court Rose would be the main playmaker which would help the offence flow.

Rose’s contract is only two years, $15 million so if they decide he’s not worth it they could let him walk into free agency at the end of next season.
