LeBron James returned to Cleveland for the first time in more than two years and put on a show.

He had his best game of the 2021 season last night, dropping 46 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. James did this all whilst shooting 73% from the field.

The Cleveland Cavaliers proved to be a tough match for the Lakers. They outscored the Lakers 31-22 in the third quarter. The pace of their offense looked to be difficult for the Lakers to keep up, as the Cavs went into the fourth quarter up 89-87.

James’ former teammate Cedi Osman had a good game and played a part in the Cavaliers’ good third quarter. He went 5-8 from three with 20 points, scoring three of those 3-pointers in the third.

Collin Sexton has caught a lot of attention after his career-high 42 points, but he couldn’t take over the game at anywhere near a similar level. He gave the Cavs 17 points and 6 assists.

Andre Drummond also had a good game putting up 25 points and 17 rebounds.

Anthony Davis said: “They’re a young team, they play hard, they play fast, they get out in transition and force turnovers.” Cleveland managed to score 22 points of Lakers’ turnovers, the Lakers only scored 15 from Cleveland’s.

LeBron James said, “The fourth quarter is my favourite,” and he took it over completely, scoring 21 out of 28 points for the Lakers, outscoring the Cavaliers who only scored 19 in that quarter.

LBJ shot 7-11 from three, including a deep three from the logo that took the Lakers from up two with four minutes left to up five. Then he hit another one a minute later, stepping back and hitting the shot to put the Lakers eight over Isaac Okoro.

The rookie Okoro also hit a big three with less than two minutes left to make the Lakers lead only by three. The King hit right back with another 3-pointer.

Alex Caruso would then make one of many good defensive plays in the quarter to give the Lakers another possession that would surely close the game.

LBJ goes off

James hit a deep turn-around jumper over Sexton and Jarrett Allen who tried help.

“After the first quarter I knew it was gonna be a good night for him,” said Anthony Davis. James scored 16 points in the first quarter including three from beyond the arc.

Cavaliers’ coach J.B Bickerstaff said: “You take your hat off to him. There’s a reason why he is who he is and he’s accomplished all the things that he’s accomplished.”

James extended the Lakers’ unbeaten road record to 10-0. After the game, he said: “Right now it’s all about rhythm and continuing to work on my conditioning.

“Obviously I did a short offseason, I didn’t get an opportunity to really dive into the lab like I’ve grown accustomed to over my career.

“Where I can break down a lot of films and then break down areas where I know I need to get better at.”

Despite this, James is still having a good season so far, shooting a career best 41% from three. If he can keep that up, the Lakers have a great chance of winning a second championship in a row.
