Predictions and picks for Week 9 of the 2022 NFL season

Home » NFL » NFL Week 9 Predictions 2022: Picks & Previews for Week 9

By this time next week, we’ll be at the midway point of the NFL season, which should be a good sign for our NFL Week 9 predictions in 2022.

Granted, some teams remain rather unpredictable from one week to the next. But our NFL picks for today are based on nearly half a season of information. That means we should have enough data to drive our NFL Week 9 predictions for 2022.

NFL Week 9 predictions 2022

With six teams on bye in Week 9, we don’t have quite as many games to choose from as in a normal week, making our NFL Week 9 picks a little more challenging. But we’re not going to make that an excuse for our NFL picks straight up or our NFL picks against the spread, which is where things really get tricky.

Of course, we’re not here to make any guarantees with our NFL picks for today. But here is a look at our most confident NFL Week 9 picks.

Vikings vs Commanders

Even at 6-1, it still seems fair to be skeptical of the Vikings when making our NFL Week 9 predictions in 2022. They only have one win against a team with a winning record, and that was against the Dolphins when they didn’t have Tua Tagovailoa. In fact, that game and Minnesota’s loss to the Eagles are the only true road games the Vikings have had to this point in the season.

Meanwhile, the Commanders have hit their stride with three straight wins. In fairness, they haven’t exactly beaten a bunch of quality teams.

But the Washington defense has come around and Taylor Heinicke gives them a competent backup quarterback to keep things rolling. That combination should allow the Commanders to at least beat the spread in this game while also having a chance to pull off an upset as a home underdog.

  • SU Pick: Commanders (+156)
  • ATS Pick: Commanders +3.5 (-112)

Dolphins vs Bears

This is a tricky game because the Bears have shown signs of life offensively lately. They are also 2-1 at home this season. However, trading Roquan Smith is going to hurt the Chicago defense, as it did last week against the Cowboys. That will make it harder for the Bears to play close, low-scoring games that will give them a chance to beat the spread.

As for the Dolphins, they are 5-0 in games that Tua Tagovailoa has been healthy enough to start and finish.

Now that he’s healthy, Miami has a chance to get rolling. Granted, four of Miami’s five wins this year have come by six points or less. But facing the Bears should give the Dolphins a chance to finally have a comfortable win.

  • SU Pick: Dolphins (-215)
  • ATS Pick: Dolphins -4.5 (-114)

Bills vs Jets

Behind Josh Allen, who’s leading the way in the NFL MVP odds, the Bills have won four in a row. Also, four of their six wins this year have come by at least 10 points, so they aren’t a terrible bet to cover a spread this big.

Keep in mind that Von Miller is among the top candidates when looking at NFL DPOY odds, leading a Buffalo defense that’s conceding just 14 points per game.

On paper, this is a game that the Bills should win easily. But covering 13 points on the road against a division rival won’t be easy. The Jets are 5-3 and are allowing just 15.6 points per game over their last five games. Even with Zach Wilson still figuring things out and Breece Hall injured, the New York defense has the pieces to slow down Allen and the Buffalo offense just enough to stay close enough to beat the spread in this game.

  • SU Pick: Bills (-670)
  • ATS Pick: Jets +12.5 (-105)

Packers vs Lions

If the Packers can’t find a way to get things turned around against the Lions this week, we’ll know that Green Bay is in serious trouble. Fortunately for Aaron Rodgers and company, the Lions are giving up 32 points per game. They’ve allowed at least 24 points in every game and blew a 10-point halftime lead last week. The Green Bay offense is far from perfect, but they don’t need to be perfect to do some damage against the Lions.

In fairness, the Detroit offense started to turn things around after failing to score a touchdown in back-to-back games. At times, they can look awfully impressive behind Jared Goff. But Goff can also be turnover-prone, throwing six interceptions in seven games.

Two of Detroit’s last three losses have come by double digits despite showing that they’re capable of playing close games. With the Packers in a state of desperation, Rodgers will be able to take advantage of a porous defense and give Green Bay a comfortable win.

  • SU Pick: Packers (-164)
  • ATS Pick: Packers -3 (-110)

Seahawks vs Cardinals

Our NFL Week 9 predictions in 2022 include another underdog winning. That’s primarily because we’re a little befuddled at why the Cardinals opened this week as a favorite. The Arizona defense has fallen apart lately with the Cardinals giving up 34 points in back-to-back weeks.

Kyler Murray and the Arizona offense struggled a few weeks ago against the Seahawks, scoring just nine points. In fact, Pete Carroll has enjoyed his trips to the desert with the Seahawks going 7-1-1 in their last nine road games against the Cardinals.

Perhaps more importantly, the Seahawks look like a genuine contender on the heels of three straight wins. Two of those wins came against teams with a winning record. Seattle has a top-5 offense behind the play of Geno Smith, as well as Kenneth Walker, who is giving Seattle a steady rushing attack. There is every reason to believe the Seahawks can keep it going this week and beat the Cardinals on the road.

  • SU Pick: Seahawks (+104)
  • ATS Pick: Seahawks +1.5 (-110)
