Oakland Raiders have agreed a deal to land former Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown, according to Adam Schefter.

Brown will receive $36.75 million guaranteed on his four-year deal and could make as much as $66 million.

Oakland had a very difficult 2018 season, having traded away Khalil Mack before the campaign started. This offseason has already been box office for the Bay Area franchise, seeing them land elite wide receiver Antonio Brown and now his namesake Trent.

Trent Brown will become the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history once this deal completes.

New England swapped a third and a fifth round pick to land Brown. He then played every game in their 2018/19 Super Bowl campaign and they will now receive a compensatory third round selection.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was sacked a record-breaking 51 times last season and will be delighted by Brown’s arrival.

This deal is remarkable in its total dollar amount, but also because Oakland drafted left tackle Kolton Miller in the first round in 2018. Miller, as Schefter also reported, will shift to right tackle.

Oakland resembled a dodgy soap opera for most of last season. Their future in California is uncertain amidst rumours of a move to London or Las Vegas. In just a couple of big deals, though, they have made huge steps in making the on-field product more watchable.
