Five potential Sixers trades before the 2023 trade deadline

Home » NBA » Five potential Sixers trades before the 2023 trade deadline

The Philadelphia 76ers organization was patient enough to go through the process of taking the time to build a respectful team that will be a contender for winning the NBA championship. It’s been almost a decade, and the Sixers still haven’t reached the Eastern Conference Finals. It seems like they are one or two pieces away from going all the way and it is the perfect time to see the Sixers trade deadline targets in 2023.

Sixers trade deadline targets 2023

Having last year’s NBA leading scorer Joel Embiid and former league MVP James Harden seems like enough for the Sixers to attack the NBA championship.

Still, head coach Doc Rivers has a couple of 76ers trade ideas. With the trade deadline being just around the corner, let’s see the latest Sixers rumors and the top trade candidates.

Pursue Collins and Bogdanovic

John Collins and Bogdan Bogdanovic from the Atlanta Hawks are on top of the Sixers trade deadline targets 2023. Collins is an electrifying power forward who would be a great fit next to Embiid. He is a great rebounder, who brings a lot of energy on the court and would be even better playing alongside a scorer like Embiid. His season averages of 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game with the Hawks don’t sound special but he would be much more efficient in Rivers’ system.

Bogdanovic would be an even more important addition to the Sixers team. The 30-year-old Serbian has huge experience winning in Europe and has a deadly shot from outside. He can create his own shots and will benefit from playing next to Harden.

In order to get these two, the Sixers would need to part ways with Tobias Harris, who is the highest-paid player on the team, and Furkan Korkmaz who plays only 10 minutes per game this season.

Build a deal for Conley

Getting an elite point guard is on top of the 76ers trade ideas. There are not many of those in the league but Mike Conley is one of the few who would be able to help the Sixers right away.

The veteran has huge experience as he is in his 16th season in the league. His status with the Utah Jazz is not as good as he wants it to be at this stage of his career. Conley is one of the players who will definitely be on the move before the trade deadline and there is no better place for him than Philadelphia.

He is a pass-first point guard who would make Embiid and Harden better players. In the potential deal, the Sixers would also get the Argentinian Leandro Bolmaro and would send P.J. Tucker, De’Anthony Melton and Furkan Korkmaz to Utah.

Bolster backcourt with Rozier

Another option for the Sixers to cover the point guard position is trading for Terry Rozier. The former Boston Celtic is having a good individual season with the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 21.5 points and 5.1 assists per game. However, the Hornets are building the team around LaMelo Ball and since he is back from injury, the Hornets may try to deal Rozier.

The player himself would definitely be happy with a change of scenario since he would love to join a winning team. Adding Rozier will give the Sixers another great scorer who is a decent defender and plays aggressively on both ends of the floor. Rozier is in his prime being 28 years old and the Sixers would get a point guard for the next few seasons. However, bringing in Rozier comes with a big price tag and the Sixers would need to give up De’Anthony Melton, Matisse Thybulle, Danuel House Jr. and Georges Niang.

Go after more shooting from Dallas

Just like the Sixers, the Dallas Mavericks are another team that is one piece away from becoming a real contender. In a potential deal between the two teams, the Sixers would get Tim Hardaway Jr. and Davis Bertans in exchange for Tobias Harris. Hardaway Jr. is a good shooter who would fit in the sixth-man role for the Sixers. He can cover the two and three positions and can play both as a backup for Harden or play next to him.

Hardaway Jr. is also a good defender who can guard both guard positions as well as the players on the wing. Bertans is a pure shooter who shoots almost 40% from deep in his career. He is 6-10 and can be a perfect fit at the power forward position next to Embiid. The Latvian can stretch the floor which would give Embiid more space in the paint and they can both benefit from playing next to each other.

Eric Gordon finally gets dealt

Adding a reliable scorer who is willing to play just to win would be a great move for the Sixers. A player that fits in that description is definitely Eric Gordon from the Houston Rockets. The veteran shooting guard is literally wasting time in Houston, a team that is in a rebuilding process and will probably be tanking by the end of the season.

Gordon just turned 34 and is willing to put himself in a situation to win. The Sixers are a team that can offer him exactly that and Rivers can use another scoring option coming off the bench.

Gordon averages 12.5 points per game this season and is shooting 37% from the three-point range in his career. He plays 30 minutes per game with the Rockets and would be more productive on the Sixers even with fewer minutes on the court. Gordon will earn almost $20 million this season, so the Sixers would need to trade four players for him – De’Anthony Melton, Furkan Korkmaz, Shake Milton and Danuel House Jr.
