After a just over decade long-wait, the Phoenix Suns have officially clinched a playoff berth with a win over the Clippers.

An amazing feeling for all connected with the Suns organization, as they have now officially booked their place in the postseason.

Suns return to playoffs

Devin Booker will finally get to experience the postseason for himself. A five-year long wait for the All-star guard whose level of performance so far this season has been elevated with the assistance of the future hall famer, Chris Paul. The dynamic guard duo have come together and formed an impressive partnership which has surprised many fans across the basketball world on how efficient the Suns have become. The Suns are now #2 in a stacked Western Conference and are slowly turning the heads of doubters who believe the Suns are not the real deal.

Having at last reached the playoffs, the Phoenix Suns now end the second-longest active playoff drought. A fellow western conference team, the Sacramento Kings hold the no.1 record of the longest active playoff drought, which dates back to 2005-06 season.

Post-match reaction

Morale was high in the Suns camp after this long-awaited achievement, a collection of the Suns players expressed their thoughts on clinching a playoff spot.

“Where we were just last year, a couple years ago, to get to this point now, it shows all the work we’ve put in over that course of time, and how important everybody in the organization, from top to bottom, has been. It’s honestly a really big lesson to be a part of it,” said Suns forward Cameron Johnson.

All-star Booker expressed his reaction as “it feels great”, a very simple comment, but then followed up with a detailed backstory to the significance of this achievement. “It’s been a long time coming. I just shut my mouth for five years.”

Upcoming games & Playoffs start date

Up next for the Suns will be a continuation of their short home stand against the number one seeded team in the west, the Utah Jazz.

The NBA playoffs commence from May 22nd 2021.
