Most of the NY Giants trade rumors 2021 are centered around shopping some of their players to get more draft assets.
NY Giants trade rumors 2021
It’s already clear that the Giants aren’t going anywhere this season. Even if they somehow miraculously turn it around in the second half, their roster isn’t healthy and competitive enough to go head-to-head with other contending teams.
Dave Gettleman should hit the reset button if he wants New York to have a bright future. Band-aid solutions aren’t going to make the Giants competitive now or in the near future.
Here are five players the NY Giants should sell before the trade deadline…
TE, Evan Engram
Giants fans are probably fed up with Evan Engram‘s inconsistencies and injuries over the past two seasons. Perhaps the best move for both parties is to move on from each other. This is why he has been on top of the NY Giants trade rumors these past few weeks.
Engram’s trade value might be lower than the offseason, but there are a plethora of teams interested in his services. He’s still a solid player for contending teams needing a serviceable tight end.
Tight end-needy teams such as the Bills make sense as a landing spot for Engram.
WR, Darius Slayton
The Giants have a lot of wide receiver depth. This means that they could trade some of their receivers that don’t fit the rebuild in exchange for more draft capital. That being said, Darius Slayton seems like an obvious choice here.
Kadarius Toney is definitely part of the NY rebuild after burning the first-round pick on him. Meanwhile, Kenny Golladay is virtually untouchable this year since they just signed him for a four-year $72 million contract.
Slayton could still be part of the rebuild but he’s more of an expendable asset right now. There’s no harm for Gettleman to hear potential trade offers for the speedy receiver.
RB, Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley is on top of the latest NFL trade deadline news due to the rumors surrounding him. Most already agreed that they should trade Barkley and move on. The question is: When?
It may not be the best move but the Giants should start listening to other teams about a potential Barkley trade. Yes, his value tanked due to the fact that he’s not 100% healthy but will it be another waiting game for New York?
If the Giants received some good offers this trade deadline, then they should consider it. His value may return like before but who really knows at this point. After all, there are a lot of teams that would love him as their lead running back.
S, Jabrill Peppers
Jabrill Peppers is an aggressive player and brings a lot of energy on the defensive end. However, he hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations this season. It’s safe to say that his dream of becoming one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL won’t happen soon.
He’s still serviceable but not for that big money. Through the first seven weeks, Peppers had a noticeably diminished defensive role compared to last year. There are some glaring holes in his game that don’t fit the narrative that he’s worth the money.
Still, Peppers is a serviceable safety and can help any NFL team needing secondary help.
DE, Lorenzo Carter
Maybe it’s time to cut losses. Lorenzo Carter has been disappointing for New York for the past two seasons. There’s no reason to believe he can turn it around soon and be part of the NY rebuild.
Through the first seven games this season, Carter has yet to record a single sack. He’s among the worst pass rushers this year with just a pressure rate of 2.7—ranked 98th amongst 111 edge rushers in the league.
Carter’s still a great athlete but it’s best for both parties to move on. It’ll give him a fresh new start.
What dirt does Gettleman have on the Maras? The only way he still has a job.
