The NFL trade deadline is zooming in and the New England Patriots trade rumors 2021 continue to spread. Apparently, Bill Belichik’s team could be looking to make a couple of moves.

Several analysts thought that the Patriots would be sellers at this point, especially considering how Belichick has dealt with his roster and his payroll throughout the years. But with their 4-4 record and a legit shot at a Wild Card berth in the AFC, they might as well become buyers.

You know that Belichick is always looming around in the shadows trying to turn someone else’s trash into gold, which is why we can’t rule out any possibility when discussing Patriots trade targets. But, what could happen? Let’s break it down.

Patriots trade rumors 2021

It’s not a secret that the Patriots have had a tough time getting by after Tom Brady‘s departure. Then again, Mac Jones has rapidly embraced a leadership role and looks better and more comfortable as the weeks go by. That’s why the team could trust him and move some assets to give him more weapons.

Nonetheless, we can’t also ignore the fact that Belichick is a defensive-minded coach and that the Patriots’ biggest strength is on that side of the field. So, maybe they’ll look to further improve one of the league’s toughest and most physical units.

3. Duron Harmon

Bill Belichick is all about business, nothing personal. So, he and Duron Harmon might work out on a reunion that would benefit both of them. The former Patriots’ safety has been pretty solid for the Atlanta Falcons but we don’t expect a team that’s 3-4 to hold on to many players past the deadline.

Harmon clearly doesn’t fit the young Falcons’ timeline right now. And, while they may not want a draft pick in return for his services, the Patriots could send one or even two lesser players for him. He’s familiar with Belichick’s defense and could be a plug-and-play kind of guy.

2. Brandin Cooks

Even though most of the Patriots trade rumors 2021 talk about defensive players, they still could try and give Mac Jones more weapons. Also, it’s not a secret that Brandin Cooks is unhappy with the current status of the Houston Texans and plenty of teams will be interested in his services.

Cooks had a brief, yet successful stint with the Patriots and thrived under Josh McDaniels’ system. Also, he’d give them the big-play threat they lack right now.

His speed, steady hands, and veteran leadership could be just what this team needs to take their offense to a whole new level. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that they’ll have to pay up if they want to acquire his services, as several teams such as the Green Bay Packers will reportedly be trying to acquire him as the deadline zooms in.

1. Logan Ryan

Another familiar face could headline the list of Patriots trade targets. Logan Ryan was outstanding during his days at Foxborough and the New York Giants may not want to part ways with him. Then again, given their record and his contract, they might be better off just trading him away while they still can.

Ryan has shown an ability to play as a slot cornerback or as a safety and that versatility would grant him plenty of snaps with the Patriots. He’s a respected presence in the locker room and would provide plenty of depth to an already solid secondary defense. The 2-5 Giants may not have a choice but to let him go if they offer a couple of draft picks for his services.
