Predictions and picks for Week 17 of the 2022 NFL season

Home » NFL » Week 17 Predictions 2022: Picks & Previews for Week 17

As the NFL season winds down, we’re getting ready for our NFL Week 17 predictions in 2022.

Last week’s games were a good lesson that even teams not in the playoff picture can win games while teams still fighting for their playoff lives can lose. That’s a good lesson to keep in mind when making our NFL picks for today, whether they be NFL picks straight up or NFL picks against the spread.

NFL Week 17 predictions 2022

  • Saints vs Eagles Best Bet
  • Browns vs Commanders Best Bet
  • 49ers vs Raiders Best Bet
  • Vikings vs Packers Best Bet
  • Bills vs Bengals Best Bet

Of the 16 games on the Week 17 schedule, only one features two teams that are both eliminated from playoff contention.

That’s excellent news for fans who want exciting and meaningful games but does make it tough when it comes to our NFL Week 17 predictions in 2022. Nevertheless, we’ve managed to find good value with this week’s betting lines and are excited to share with you our NFL Week 17 picks.

Saints vs Eagles

Despite last week’s loss, the Eagles looked fine last week without Jalen Hurts. The Philadelphia offense has so many great playmakers that Gardner Minshew can still get the job done. That’s why we’re not going to shy away from them in our NFL Week 17 predictions for 2022.

The Eagles are back at home and know they still need one more win to wrap up home-field advantage in the NFC, so they’ll be motivated to get a win. The Eagles are also 6-1 at home this year and have covered the spread in all six of those wins.

Meanwhile, we won’t be fooled by the Saints winning back-to-back games. This is still a team that’s limited offensively, holding them to 17 points or less in five of their last seven games. That will not lead to many points on the road against the Philadelphia defense, allowing the Eagles to win comfortably.

SU Pick: Eagles (-320)

ATS Pick: Eagles -6.5 (-118)

Browns vs Commanders

This game is perhaps our safest bet among our NFL picks for today. Even with no wins in their last three games, the Commanders are still the better team in this matchup. They’re at home and they are in desperate need of a win.

Even with a question about who should be starting at quarterback, Washington’s defense will get the job done. The Commanders have held six of their last eight opponents to 20 points or less, which is a good formula against the Browns.

Cleveland’s offense hasn’t come to life as expected under Deshaun Watson. The Browns have just 33 total points over their last three games and probably won’t see much of an uptick over the last two weeks of the season. Plus, the Browns are completely out of the playoff picture, so they may not have the motivation in a road game to make things interesting if they fall behind in the first half.

  • SU Pick: Commanders (-142)
  • ATS Pick: Commanders -2.5 (-110)

49ers vs Raiders

Betting on the 49ers right now seems like the safest bet in football, making this the most confident of our NFL Week 17 picks.

San Francisco has won eight in a row and covered the spread in all but one of those games. The defense is at another level with Nick Bosa at the top of the NFL DPOY odds. Over their eight straight wins, the 49ers are giving up just 12.1 points per game. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy is settling in and looks like a reliable veteran, throwing two touchdown passes in four straight games.

As for the Raiders, they are hanging on by a thread in the playoff picture. The 49ers seem like the team to put the final nail in the coffin. The Las Vegas offense has potential but has also struggled against quality defensive teams, as we saw last week against the Steelers. They may not do too much against the San Francisco defense this week, making it easy for the 49ers to win and cover.

  • SU Pick: 49ers (-235)
  • ATS Pick: 49ers -5.5 (-110)

Vikings vs Packers

This is our upset special among our NFL Week 17 predictions in 2022. Somehow, the 12-3 Vikings are underdogs, albeit on the road, against the 7-8 Packers.

In fairness, the Packers are at home and have won three in a row, keeping their playoff hopes alive. But the Vikings have no reason to be intimidated by a trip to Lambeau Field, earning three wins and a tie in their last seven visits to Green Bay.

Plus, the Packers have still been a little unconvincing during their three-game winning streak. They may not benefit from their defense getting four takeaways the way they did last week. Aaron Rodgers still doesn’t look completely in sync with his receivers while the Green Bay running game can be hit-and-miss. While the Vikings have their flaws, they usually find a way to win games, which is why we see a ton of value in them as underdogs this week.

  • SU Pick: Vikings (+162)
  • ATS Pick: Vikings +3 (+100)

Bills vs Bengals

This promises to be one of the best Monday night games of the year. The NFL MVP odds for both Josh Allen and Joe Burrow have been on the ascendency in recent weeks, leading both the Bills and Bengals to enter this game red-hot.

Buffalo has won six in a row while the Bengals have won seven in a row. The Bills currently own the top seed in the AFC, although the Bengals know they can still be the top seed if they win this game.

But the difference here is that the Bills have proven time and time again that they can win games like this. They’ve already beaten the Ravens and Chiefs on the road, so winning in Cincinnati is something they’re more than capable of doing. Obviously, the Bengals have just two losses in their last 13 games.

But they had to overcome a huge deficit against the Bucs two weeks ago and nearly blew a massive lead against the Patriots last week. This feels like a team that’s slipping and due for a loss, which is why we’re backing the Bills on Monday night.

  • SU Pick: Bills (-116)
  • ATS Pick: Bills -1.5 (-105)
