Release dates and colorways for Zion Williamson’s first signature shoe

Home » NBA » Release dates and colorways for Zion Williamson’s first signature shoe

Zion Williamson has been one of the most exciting players to watch in the league. Drafted No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019, Zion has established himself as one of the league’s best forwards. Being an all-star at the age of 20, it’s just deserving for him to get a signature series from Jordan Brand.

Jordan Brand unveiled Zion Williamson’s new signature shoe: Zion 1 on April 20, 2021. He’s the first Generation Z player to have the latest Jordan Brand signature sneaker—joining the likes of superstars such as Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony. Only a select few have been selected to carry the prestigious logo of Jordan. Clearly, Jordan Brand is now fully invested in Zion’s future.

Zion 1 release date and colorways

The theme of Zion 1 is all about remembering where he came from. He wants to represent his journey and family over anything else. Even though he is a beast on the court, he is a down-to-earth guy off the court.

Let’s take a deep dive into Zion 1’s colorways and the stories behind it. As well as its release dates and where to buy it.

Gen Zion

“Gen Zion” is the first colorway to be released from the signature line. This colorway features a classic white and black color.

After all, Zion wanted the first colorway to be simple. He wanted to start a shoe with a great foundation before moving on to other creative colorways. Without giving a striking color at first, this leaves for more creativity later on.

He already debuted this colorway on April 20th against the Brooklyn Nets where he dropped 33 points and 7 rebounds, shooting over 70% in the field.

Color: Black/White-Metallic Gold
Price: $120
Release Date: April 23, 2021

ZNA

The “ZNA” colorway represents Zion and his game.

The superhero colors in the shoe scream of his superhuman nature on the court. He wanted to show in this colorway that his game is out of this world, but as a person, he is a down-to-earth guy.

Color: Blue Void/Fierce Purple/Indigo Haze/Bright Crimson
Release Date: May 5, 2021
Price: $120

Noah

The “Noah” colorway has a special meaning to Zion because it represents his little brother, Noah.

The story behind this is when Noah started to scribble with crayons over the all-white Jordan 1 given to him. Having a colorful shoe like this, Zion sees this shoe as a representation of Noah’s qualities—vivid, bright, and colorful.

Color: Black/Bright Crimson/Amarillo/White
Release Date: May 19, 2021
Price: $120

Marion

The “Marion” colorway is the most significant shoe to Zion. This shoe is basically a tribute to his mom and his hometown, Marion, South Carolina.

The burgundy color was inspired by Zion’s basketball team color in middle school—Johnakin Middle School. Meanwhile, the pink on the bottom represents the lotus flower. Zion wants to represent Marion like a lotus flower coming out through the mud and blossoming.

Color: White/Hyper Pink/Dark Beetroot/Metallic Silver
Release Date: May 26, 2021
Price: $120
Buy “Marion” at Nike.com

While we see Zion as a bully on the court, he is clearly a down-to-earth guy off the court with the way he came up with these colorway inspirations.

He wanted to put family first over anything.

Overall, Jordan Brand’s engineering team did a great job making a shoe that caters to Zion’s strength and quickness. It’s a hybrid shoe that is perfect for players who rely on either quickness or strength or even both. The back part of the shoe is rigid, perfect for powerful landings; while the front is lightweight, fit for quick-twitch jumps and cuts.

Zion 1 is clearly just a sneak peek of what is yet to come. Zion is well on his way to superstardom and more numbered signature lines will be built for him.
