There are a lot of Trey Flowers trade rumors 2021 brewing around after the Lions are rumored to shop him ahead of the trade deadline.

Trey Flowers trade rumors 2021

With the Lions going 0-7 for the first seven weeks of the season, there’s no point anymore in keeping the highly-priced veteran on the roster. It makes sense for Detroit to move the remaining two years of his five-year $90 million contract.

That being said, pass rush-needy teams looking for a veteran defensive end should target Flowers before the trade deadline. In five games this season, Flowers has 1.5 sacks, 20 total tackles, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits, and seven quarterback pressures.

Here are the four best Flowers trade fits…

Chiefs

Over the last seven weeks, the Chiefs are struggling on the defensive end especially in the pass rush department. According to Team Rankings, Kansas City is dead last in the league in sacks with 1.1 per game this season. That’s alarming for a Super Bowl favorite.

As you can see, it just makes sense for the Chiefs to acquire Flowers before the trade deadline. He’s not the best pass rusher by any means but he’s an upgrade over Frank Clark who has zero sacks currently.

Getting a solid pass rusher is a priority for the Chiefs this trade deadline. If they want to improve their abysmal defense, Flowers is a viable target.

Cardinals

If Arizona is going to contend, they need to bolster their pass-rushing depth. This is true especially given some of the top quarterbacks play on Super Bowl contending teams. They can’t rely on outscoring teams all the time.

Now, they need it more than ever after JJ Watt’s shoulder injury. In seven games, Watt recorded one sack, 16 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and ten quarterback hits. It’s a brutal blow for the Cards to lose their leader in the front.

Chandler Jones may be there but they need a serviceable replacement to Watt. This makes Flowers a solid candidate for Arizona to acquire.

Joining a contending team like the Cards can revitalize Flowers to imitate his early Detroit performance.

Browns

Cleveland takes pride in their defense. They have two of the best pass rushers in the game in Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney. These two are the big reason why the Browns are ranked third in the league in sacks with 2.9 per game.

Should the Browns decide to get richer, then they could snag Flowers ahead of the trade deadline. It may not be one of their priorities right now but getting him makes their pass rush even deadlier.

Trey Flowers doesn’t generate a lot of sacks, but he gives consistent quarterback pressure and plays the run very well.

The Browns have already appeared in the Trey Flowers trade rumors in the last offseason. Perhaps they should now make a move on the veteran defensive end. After all, he’s an interesting fit for them.

Bengals

The Bengals are one of the hottest teams right now. After the first seven weeks, they find themselves at the top of the AFC North. Their offense looks legit under Joe Burrow and their defense looks solid as well.

If Cincinnati is serious about making a deep playoff run, then they should improve their pass-rushing depth. Trey Hendrickson is the one who leads the front with 6.5, 13 total tackles, five tackles per loss, and 12 quarterback hits.

Aside from Hendrickson, there hasn’t been a reliable pass-rushing threat. Sam Hubbard is inconsistent and Khalid Kareem is injury-prone. Joseph Ossai is also done for the season with a torn meniscus.

Getting Flowers to lead this young defensive line is perfect for the Bengals. His veteran presence and solid edge-rushing techniques are valuable for a team like them.
