The NBA is one of the most competitive sports leagues in the world, and teams are constantly looking to build rosters with top talent. Currently, when you think of teams with top players from the league, some franchises come to mind, like the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Milwaukee Bucks.
The Boston Celtics have had some of the greatest players in their franchise’s history. They boast current stars such as Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart, along with former greats like Larry Bird and Kevin Garnett. Their success can be attributed to their deeply-rooted history of winning championships that have earned them 17 total titles -the most of any team in NBA history.
But the Cleveland Cavaliers have managed to put together a team with top talent that is causing a sensation in the league, and that aspires to go far in the postseason. Next, we analyze two of their best players.
Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell is quickly making a name for himself in the NBA. The 26-year-old shooting guard has already established himself as an up-and-coming star amongst the league’s elite. His dedication to his craft and passion for the game have made him one of the most talked about players this season, with spectacular plays and clutch moments that have fans across the nation buzzing.
Most recently, Mitchell had a performance for the ages against the Chicago Bulls, where he scored 71 points in a single game – something not seen since 2006 when Kobe Bryant scored 81 with the Los Angeles Lakers against the Toronto Raptors.
“First, congratulate my teammates; we fought. I know I scored 70 points, but I wouldn’t be here without them. We did it as a group, my teammates put me in a good position and I made the plays,” Mitchell said after the game.
“I looked for a way to win. I told JB (Bickerstaff) not to take me away. I tried different things and I feel blessed.
“To be up there, in the record books, with guys like Wilt, it’s really an honor, I’m extremely blessed, humbled that I’m in that company. I’ve always believed I can be one of the best players in this league, but I’ve got to keep working,” he said in post-game remarks with a big smile.

Evan Mobley
The No. 3 pick of the 2021 draft and the runner-up for Rookie of the Year last season is having an excellent year. His coach has stated that Mobley is the best player on the floor when the Cavs perform at their highest level.
“When you get drafted as high as those guys do, you’re typically on a team that’s in development mode, and your best players are the ones that are going to get the most amount of reps, the guys with the most potential.
“What we try to do — and we’ll see how it pans out here — is it’s not about as much individual development; it’s about how much can you impact winning? And we spent a ton of time working on skills and all that stuff, don’t get me wrong. When Evan’s on the floor, he’s a winner by nature,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said.
For many, Mobley may be a bit under the radar in Cleveland, but his arrival has changed the team’s dynamic and allowed coach Bickerstaff to build a solid defense. The Cavs are currently the NBA’s top defensive team, a radical change from what they were three years before Mobley’s arrival.
“Every time I go out there, shooting shots, I can find my spots as much as possible and just let the game come to me — try not to force too often,” Mobley said.
“That’s what I’ve been focusing on. I mean, you know, some guys have to be the guy, and I don’t necessarily have to be the guy on this team, but I’m just gonna try to traditionally produce as much as I can in my role right now.”
Mobley is predicted to jump to All-Star and be called up for this year’s game.
