Re-drafting the 2017 NBA Draft

15th pick: Markelle Fultz

Markelle Fultz’s career has been a string of what-ifs; what if he finds his jumper? What if he never got injured? What if the Sixers didn’t make the trade?

It’s all history now. Fultz is on a new team, away from the spotlight of Philadelphia. He’s been a useful player for the Orlando Magic in 2019/20, albeit still far from what many expected after he dominated in college.

The shot still isn’t falling. He’s hitting about a quarter of his three-point attempts, and he’s only taking 1.8 per game, but that’s at least an improvement from his time with the Sixers. He’s improved markedly at the charity stripe.

There’s still a what-if with Fultz. It still feels like there’s untapped potential, which kept him just outside the lottery in our redraft.

It would’ve been wrong to complete this without Fultz, so we extended just beyond the lottery.
